I haven’t had a store-bought salad dressing in my home for years! There’s just no need for it when you can whip up a flavorful dressing in seconds and know exactly what is and what isn’t in it.
The basic formula is:
3 parts OIL to 1 part VINEGAR or acidic.
Then you add different flavours (sweet or savory) and textures (to thicken) as you may like. Easy-peezy.
Here’s my favourite staple dressing that I mix up every few days in a small mason jar and it goes not only on our salads, but steamed veggies, cooked grains such as quinoa or rice, and sometimes even drizzled on a chicken breast for added flavour or moisture if needed.
- 3/4 cup oil (I typically use a combo of half and half either avocado, grapeseed, hemp or flax, and some olive oil)
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp natural honey
- 1-2 tbsp tahini paste (sesame seed butter) OR 1 avocado to thicken and make it a little bit creamy
- dash of dijon mustard
- a couple twists each from the sea salt and black pepper mills
Shake vigorous in the mason jar, or mix in blender. Play with flavours, and adjust ratios to your taste. Enjoy!
