1.5 cups hemp seed
1 cup finely chopped/ground nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans)
less than 2/3 cup organic cocoa powder
½ cup Protein Powder
½ cup unsulphured unsweetened shredded coconut
dash of sea salt
1 cup almond butter
2/3 cup tahini paste (like almond butter but it is crushed sesame seeds)
1/3 cup unpasteurized honey or organic molasses
2 tbsp coconut oil
3 tsp organic vanilla extract

In a bowl, combine hemp seeds, nuts, cocoa, protein powder, salt and coconut.

Add almond butter, tahini paste, honey, coconut oil and vanilla. Mix until well blended. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes, then shape in 1 inch balls or cookies. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Makes 6.5 dozen (about 80)

Hemp is a high protein seed containing all nine of the essential amino acids (like flax). It also has high amounts of fatty acids and fiber as well as containing vitamin E and trace minerals. It has a balanced ratio of omega 3 to 6 fats at around a three to one ratio. Further the protein content of the hemp seed is supposed to be very digestible.

Many people noted their personal experience of finding that hemp seed protein did not cause bloating or gas, like some of their whey, or other protein shakes did. Also, unlike soy which has super high amounts of phytic acid (that anti-nutrient that prevents us from absorbing minerals), hemp seed doesn’t contain phytic acid.
